Architect Spotlight: An Interview with Joseph Nucazzo

Written by a Gallery resident

I recently had the pleasure of chatting with the Gallery architect. Joseph Nuzzaco was the lead architect from Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart & Associates Inc., who were recruited for the project by the Novare Group – the project developer – and Coro Realty Advisors – a real-estate investment firm.

Joe is an alumnus of Clemson University. He moved to Atlanta directly after graduation and ultimately became the lead architect in the design of several Buckhead high-rises, including The Oaks in North Buckhead. He began the design of Gallery in 2005. William Baker, a residential home designer, was added to the design team as an advisor to Joe. The project broke ground in 2006 and was completed in 2007.

According to Joe, the building architecture is a prime example of how to design a luxury residence, from a host of state-of-the art amenities to pristine landscapes and a majestic lobby. One of the most distinctive features of the building reflects its name — rotating art exhibits supported by galleries throughout the Southeast. The most striking feature of each residence is the floor-to-ceiling windows that face north or south. This offers residents panoramic views of the city and magical cityscapes at night. The lobby with 10-foot ceilings makes a grand impression on residents and visitors. Another striking feature of the building is the spire which resembles the design of the Chicago Tribune building tower – a critical design inspiration for Mr. Nuzzaco. He noted the specific intention for East/West orientation of the building to provide beautiful views of mostly residential homes – and, of course, beautiful churches.

Joe firmly believes that the well-located Gallery demanded an inspiring design – one that will never be hemmed in by any future high-rise developments. He imagines that the sun rises, and sun sets are fabulous. In summary, he concludes, “Gallery is one of the most wonderful places to call home.” We wholeheartedly agree.
